DARK AND DARKER...

(Photo: Copyright Control)
From the UK, as many as 130,000 children were removed from orphanages and group homes and deported to various locations in the Commonwealth, particularly western Australia. As recently as 1967, but especially in the 1940s and ’50s, many of the children had been told that their mother/father were dead and once transported found themselves virtually enslaved and forced into hard labor in institutions where they endured physical cruelty and sexual abuse. The awful fact of British and Australian complicity speaks for itself. Watch the Jim Loach directed film *ORANGES AND SUNSHINE then never complain about your family ever again. (*NYT Critics' Pick, 2011)
